The lack of composting

Now that I've started my own bin, it feels some what like a failure of environmentalist past that it isn't common place for everyone with some outside land to compost.

Like, it really is THAT easy. SO fucking easy. My bucket doesn't even have holes in it and it's fine.

I hope I can convince some family of it. I need to be more social. Not to shove it in anyone's face, but just talk about what I'm doing, and help if they ask. I think that's enough.

When trying to convince people to do something, there are a couple of strategies I have found effective:

1) Point out how it benefits them. Most people are keenly interested in their own advantage.

2) Tell stories about it. I've been an activist since I could walk and talk, and surprisingly, the technique with the highest throughput of "I did the thing" is plain old storytelling. Show people what it would look like if your idea was widely practiced. With compost, you're not even limited to fiction and thought experiments -- you've got nature writing and creative nonfiction to boot. Or photography and nature art if you're into that.
